To sustain a high degree of protection for your media link you will need to start off by using a true streaming server. The advantage to a streaming server is that the file is not actually downloaded to the user’s computer. It is seen only as a real-time stream and there is no file left on the user’s hard drive.
After doing a lot of research on streaming media link security I have found in general there is no real 100% solution. Anybody can record a video off of the computer or TV screen by simply taking a video camera and shooting the video itself. This may not be the most beautiful way to do it and the final take will not be anywhere near as good quality as the original but they will still get something.
That said there is one company that offers link protection through streaming servers where they use the authentication of a pay per view system to secure the links. This will enable you to at least secure the link to a website. In other words you can restrict where the link will work to designated websites of your choice. So if you want the link to work on one site only you can do it. It will work for Live Webcasting or On-demand Content. They also offer password protect for the links as well.
This solution is really nice as other companies will not be able to use your link to save on bandwidth costs or to increase the quality of their brand by offering great content that you are paying for. It also keeps people coming to your site and seeing your ads and clicking on links to your pages.
The company that offers this service is: AudioVideoweb.com
They also have some other great services you can check out.
